Bomberos is a relatively new and I'm now guessing
main band for Sven-Erik Kristianson (AKA Maniac of
Mayhem fame) that was formed in 2003. Thus far the
band has released a 7" record and this debut
EP suitably titled 'Hate.' The band also features
Bjørn on guitar, Joacim on Bass, and Einar
(of Beyond Dawn, Virus, and Lamented Souls fame) on
drums. Although recently Pete has replaced Joacim
on bass and former Emperor member and convicted homo
stabber Bård Faust Eithun has joined up as the
new drummer.
Anywho Bomberos claims to play old school punk music
in the Misfits, Dead Kennedy's, and Nine Pound Hammer
vein, yet there is obviously a metal influence on
most of these songs. Now personally I haven't listened
to any punk music in years. When I was about 13 I
bought a Bad Religion CD and thought it was pretty
neato, and I own the Sex Pistols one and only album,
which is great even though it is terrible (if that
makes any sense, haha). So my exposure to punk music
has definitely been limited, but I can
certainly hear that old punk vibe in this bands music.
Hate delivers seven short songs of passionate, fast
paced, catchy punk music done the way punk should
be done. The riffs are good, the drums are fast and
furious, and Maniac screams out the vocals in a clear
yet destructive punk voice. Not much else can be said
other than if you like old school punk then be sure
to check out this up and coming band.

This rather new Norwegian band took me by surprise,
with their debut 7" release "Bringing Down
The Neighbourhood Average". Noisy and raw punk/rock
with lots of "fuck you" attitude and balls.
The time has now come to their second release, the
mini album "Hate", released on CD, and there
should be a vinyl version in the works. Once again
it took me by surprise, though this time because I
didn't knew it was going to be released.
Bomberos continues where they left with their first
release. Catchy, raw and noisy punk rock. Very simple,
but yet very effective and neckcrushing guitar riffs.
Uptempo beats, but still simple drumming, though Beinhard
tries to go out of the ordinary, and well he does
when considering the style. The composition of the
tracks is very good, it is hard to keep the feet still,
when listening to this new batch of old school punk
rock. The band does also hit the right atmosphere,
both composition wise, but also with the sound of
the instruments and the raw and dirty production.
The only thing which can be said, is that many may
have a hard time to get into the vocals from Kølla
Kristiansen. Though after some listens it gets in
there, and then it won't go away. He delivers a really
distinctive and rather non-fitting vocal, though in
time, it gets to fit right in there, with the rest
of the madness.
I think the material on this release is a tad better
than the material on the debut 7". It sounds
more worked through and catchy, even though it still
is harsh and raw as hell. My personal favourite tracks
are 'Barbed Wire Lobotomy' and 'Honeymoon In Hell",
though the rest of the tracks kicks effective ass
too. And I think it is both good and bad that the
release isn't longer than 9 minutes. It would be killer
to hear more from the band, though I reckon it works
best in small doses, and this dose works as it should,
so fuck you!

Punk Oslo style. And by "Oslo style" I
mean this is old school Dead Kennedys and Sex Pistols
worship. There is none of that pretty boy pop-punk
(a la Blink-182) crap to be found here. This music
is filthy and
grimy and sweaty. Maniac of Mayhem is the vocalist
for this band but gone are the black metal posturings.
Instead he opts for his best Jello Biafra impression.
This disk is short both in the amount of songs (7)
and the amount of minutes of its length (9). This
disk packs a punch with its delivery but I feel somehow
let down because it can't sustain its imprint on my
brain due to its limited length. And since this is
so short, so will my review be short. Sweet but short.

It takes Bomberos nine minutes and fourteen seconds
to show the entire world their accumulated hate and
disgust. The Norwegian quartet largely pays a tribute
to the American branch of the late 70s punk, and although
my interest is primarily dis'orientated towards the
English counterpar and rarely the American inclination
for hardcore, Bomberos have fully seized my attention.
There's hardly any reason in hiding that my motifs
for accepting much of the dissonance is initially
due to the involved members, Maniac (ex Mayhem) and
Einar Sjursø [Beyond Dawn, Lamented Souls,
Virus], and it doesn't make it less charming that
former Emperor and Dissection stickman Faust [Scum,
Aborym] has joined Bomberos following the release
of the MCD.
As much as it makes any plausible sense speaking
of old-school death and black metal, I reckon that
there's a rational thought in referring to a describing
a direction within the punk scene as old-school punk,
and when this awkward stigma is onset, it's just as
easy to categorize Bomberos as an old-school punk
band.
Punk is subject to a revival in Norway, and Scum
is currently one of the major topics with its involvement
of famous musicians from the black metal scene, and
Bomberos is likewise somewhat of a super group. Whether
Scum's music is the worth the effort, only time will
tell, but I consider Bomberos the real deal, despite
my lack of insight in the broad array of entertainers
of punk, which makes me less critical of the music.
Bomberos' music curiously stir the same moves in me
as Venom's and Mayhem's early material, and this is
presumably my personal link.
My need for punk is minimal compared to other musical
expressions, and Bomberos will easily satisfy my hunger
for punk for quite a while. Or perhaps I should browse
my old vinyl for some English punk?

derudaf.
Min
favorit skæring på skiven er den direkte
og lige på åbner ’Lick The Cum Of
Gode
musikere med gode ideer vil resultere i noget godt
og det er sket her.

Oslobaserte Bomberos er det minst velproduserte og
minst pinglete old school-punkbandet du kan tenke
deg. Minialbumet Hate er verdens beste eksempel på
at punken lever i beste velgående.
Tja, vi kan like godt kalle Bomberos for hardcore
også, all den grad knallhard old school-punk
á la The Exploited glir like mye over i hardcoreland
som noe annet. Men drit i det! Sjangerpreik blir pisspreik
i denne sammenheng.
Ikke noe snikksnakk her med
andre ord.
i korteste laget. Man tar seg selv i å tenke,
"er det slutt alt?". Og nettopp dét
er litt skuffende med denne utgivelsen. Men spørsmålet
innimellom Britneys siste stunts. Men Bomberos gir
nok en blank f... i akkurat det. Og det er kanskje
like greit.

With a total of seven tracks clocking in at just
over nine minutes, “Hate” is just a blip
on the radar and chances are, not your radar. In fact,
the only metal thing about this disc is the fact that
MAYHEM’s Manic is BOMBEROS’ vocalist.
Not exactly the flimsiest connection to Metal, but
not the strongest one either. If you know anything
about Punk, then you know exactly what to expect for
the time that the disc is playing for and if you hate
Punk already, then BOMBEROS, MAYHEM connection or
not, won’t change your mind. However, if you
do enjoy some Punk, then perhaps “Hate”
would be a sound investment, as each track on here
really embodies the punk spirit and there are some
really great Punk riffs all over this thing, especially
the opening riff to “Hellhound”. The only
disappointment is that Manic’s vocals aren’t
more venomous than they are, like they were on the
“Bringing Down The Neighborhood Average”
7”. While this may not be the best Punk ever,
it’s still a fun, fist pumping EP. (Online September

Bomberos plays quite different music in comparison
to other bands I review here at Vampire. What you
can expect from Bomberos you might ask now? Well,
they play punk the way it should be played. It has
been quite some years ago that I listened to punk
alot, maybe already some 15 or so years ago, and especially
The Exploited made an impression on me back then.
And when listening to Bomberos that same feeling which
I had when listening to The Exploited now comes over
me again. All rage and hate inside of me wants to
get out at once. This is punk to the core.
Bomberos is an Oslo based band with Kristiansen as
vocalist, which most of you know as Maniac from Mayhem.
So far they've released a 7"EP on Duplicate Records
last year, which is called "Bringing down the
neighbourhood average". Unfortunately I haven't
heard it yet so I'm not able to tell if there are
many differences between both these releases. But
what I do can tell is that "Hate" is a very
enjoyable mini-cd, filled with 7 tracks of furious
and fast, intensive and catchy punk. The sound is
very good I must say. It is recorded at the Fias Co.
Studios and this studio has proven its quality in
the past already (Mysticum, Audiopain, Aura Noir and
Infernö to mention a few).
Bomberos is hate from the gutters of Oslo....and it
is really worth checking out!!!

Her kommer Bomberos.
Punk er like divers som all annen
musikk, men har litt færre rammer å operer
innenfor. Her minner Bomberos mer om Motorhead enn
Glatt punk
