We've always had a soft spot for Black Metal from the former Eastern Block countries and Sekhmet from the Czech Republic are no exception. Mixing many influences from within the vast fabric of Black Metal's history including the first wave of 80's Black Metal,Norwegian Black Metal and of course the obscure magic of their fellow countrymen Master's Hammer which is most evident in the bands lyrics being in their mother tongue.

L'offrande ("The Offering") is one of hell a depressing piece of musical work, so heavy, tormented, evil and crushing that it sends half the Doom bands packing their bags.  The very, very slow pace of sheer heaviness with an atmosphere of doom (literally) almost makes you wish you were dead.  The song is almost instrumental, with a few undecipherable low growls (sometimes barely audible) that really don't sound like words. Later in the song the screams "Satan!  Satan!" (pronounced in French) are almost bone-chilling, mixing emotions of despair, torment and pure evil.  There's nothing remotely flashy in terms of instruments here - it's slow (this needed to be pointed out again), minimalistic, raw, monotonous (in a good way, if you like the style), and basically just sounds like an eternal fall into the abyss of hell.  Almost disturbing, certainly twisted and hard to take if you're not in the mood - you'll want to reach for the stop button, but will end up playing it over and over instead.  "Satanic Doom" is more like it, and it's damn effective. Epocha is the fourth album of Czech Black Metal band Silva Nigra. The music h as shifted into more technical, but still very catchy melodic musical passages. Each song lives its own life and doesn’t imitate any other musical element from the past. Individual songs are unique because of their Thrash Metal features and lively guitar riffs, resulting in a very compelling atmosphere. The lyrics deal with various topics and avoid usual kitschy themes. They are formed into several units that gained inspiration from philosophy, duality, decadence, own dark poetry and phantastic realism. SKITLIV is a collaboration of Maniac (ex-Mayhem) and Sweden's Kvarforth (Shining, etc), with some other dudes. Skandinavisk Misantropi is the first full length offering, and it exceeded all expectations. The style of Skitliv consists of painful, crawling doom metal which is lathered in Maniac's black rasp, with injections of noise and whatever else the band can use to weave their tales of depression and futility. The purpose of this album is to make the listener uncomfortable, and it succeeds to that extent, with each track another piece of a suicidal puzzle. Skandinavisk Misantropi is quite the focused effort, an elegy of controlled chaos that is fucked up and ready to die. Guest appearances by Gaahl, Attila and David Tibet (CURRENT 93).

A reissue of Skullflower's acclaimed 1992 album IIIrd Gatekeeper, featuring the lineup of Matthew Bower (guitar), Stuart Dennison (drums and vocals), and Anthony DiFranco (bass). This is one of our favorite albums ever at Crucial Blast, and we are presenting this reissue with new liner notes, a new package design that retains all of the original artwork from the HeadDirt release, and a remastering job courtesy of Scott Hull at Visceral Sound.

"Skullreader" was created by Zhaaral (better known or his militancy in the obscure DARKSPACE collective) in the c(o)urse of a 3 years traumatic voyage and going through several moments of doubt, defeat and discomfort. This work goes over a mere "black metal / gothic metal / dark metal" filing, although all of them afterall forged Zhaaral' songwriting at the origins and a bit of all of them you can hear in Skullreader (even doom metal at times). In any case what really leaves surprisingly open-mouthed is the incredible guitar riffing shaping the spine of this album, a rare quality to find in a record in the era of "massive wall-breaking" productions. Zhaaral's dark but crystal guitar playing, at times obsessive at times very varied, remind us of Tiamat's "Astral Sleep".
