Occultation is a New York trio that can best be described as eerie, drab, experimental, occult sounding heavy metal. Reminiscent of the Gothic horror of Edgar Allen Poe, Occultation deliver an ambient and atmospheric combination of occult rock mixed with metal. Featuring none other than Nameless Void from black metal legends Negative Plane on guitar, organ and backing vocals and taking cues from krautrock, Diamanda Galas, darkwave, and Italian zombie movie soundtracks, Occultation’s off-kilter yet undeniably catchy and memorable tunes are unlike anything you ’ve ever heard. E.M.’s (Nameless Void) piercing guitar and organ create an uneasy wash beneath drummer V.B. and bassist A.L.’s rather occult-sounding vocal harmonies. This is pop music you’d hear echoing within a buried Satanic chapel; a 70′s psychedelic rock band on a bad acid trip. Perfect for those long nights of dark rooms, sitting in a makeshift pentagram on your floor. Field-recordings maestros OLHON are back with a new stunning album. "Underwater passage" is based upon underwater recordings taken in 2006 by Zairo (WHERE), then treated by Massimo Magrini (of BAD SECTOR fame). These recordings were taken using special sensing microphones attached to an abandoned telephone cable running on the sea bottom at -40 m.; they were then processed with particular demodulating treatments, resulting in a complex and rich ambiental monument. Strange clicks, impulses, a load of movements. Definitely far from the usual concept of dark ambient = low-rumbling drones only, "Underwater passage" shimmers with cutting mid/high frequencies bursts. A very challenging listening. As the title says, this is a document of O.G.'s live work in Central Europe, a fascinating document of ambient sound wrapped in a beautiful package made by Trine + Kim Design. Four extended tracks mixed into one 36 minute seamless whole. A rich, dense, lush, organic assemblege of ambient drones and droning ambience. Distant fog horn moans, chimes blowing in the wind, rumbling glitch flecked hum, getting more and more ambient, until scratchy white noise fuzz adds the sound of rain beating on a roof or a distant steam engine sort of thrum to the proceedings, that eventually morph into a sort of bass driven groove, albeit a super minimal and subtly pulsing one, with the sounds of occasional passing trains and other found sounds. |

Excellent Austrian Sludge Doom band with post core influences. Wonderful acoustic sounds, pitch-black sound samples, and the mourning and conjuring vocals of the two singers. Rage, sadness, bitterness, suffering and hate are only a part of the emotions that are processed and thus channelled with OSDOU. |
